Well, here we are. The end of a decade. Time to reflect as a new one begins. What will these roaring 20’s hold? What do we want from our next 10 years?
An adage says we shouldn’t spend too much time looking to the past. Research backs this because it indicates our memory is unreliable anyway. However, to plan for the future, it’s important to have a grip on where you’ve been. To help clarify what’s worked, what hasn’t, what’s been done & what’s amiss.
So as we step into a new period in our lives & our world’s history, I encourage you to take some time to think about what matters most to you. To review where you’ve been in the past 10 years. Did you accomplish the things you wanted? Did you do the things you valued most? Did you work on –or better yet –realize your hopes & dreams? Best to do this now, because the one thing you can count on is that things won’t stay the same. If we’re looking to the future, we know we’re going to have to prepare for change.
This concept & experience we exist in of change is built upon the construct of time. It’s the very definition of the passage of time: things change as time passes. & time is the one resource we lose every week, every day, every moment.
Take some time now to think about & record who & what you aspire to be in 10 years. It’ll come much faster than you think. Wouldn’t it be better to look back on now then & be able to say “I did what I set out to do”? A plan to guide with some regular review & adjustment goes a long way.
Happy New Year decade.
