Suiting Up

It’s safe to say cosplay has emerged as the ultimate platform to celebrate the Superheroes & baddies from the creative worlds of cinema, TV & panel-print. I’ve long admired those who so lovingly & painstakingly invest their time & money into imitating the characters that have added something notable to their lives. It’s a testament to the significance of these creative mediums in our world. Now people of all ages & walks of life are getting so involved that they’re attending comic conventions all over the world. Just look at the followings of some cosplayers on Instagram to get a sense of the scope of this thing today. Not bad for a medium written off as something for the kiddies just a couple decades back.

Halloween is as close as I ever got to donning the garb of a favorite fictitious being. But now, as an actor, given the chance I doubt I’d be able to contain my excitement to join the ranks of the thespians already aboard interpreting our fitted-body-suit-wearing heroes on screen (Hey, Marvel Studios –Call my agent… let’s do lunch!).

My early life with the likes of Dr. Who, Boba Fett, Captain America, Batman, Daredevil, & so many more unquestionably fueled my flare for play & creativity which, in turn, impacted my manifested desire to get involved in acting & writing even before that. I owe the mediums much. I suspect the same can be said for the creatives of so much of the material we see on TV & read in novels & comics today.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there’s now a Comic Con in Dubai complete with cosplayers & diehard fans. Seven years strong! Who’da thought?

So as we prepare for the coming of Thanos in the next Marvel installment, Avengers: Infinity Wars, a nod to the ravenous fans of past & present, young & older alike as they prepare their tributes to all of Earth’s supers, immortals & adopted alien children. & thank you to all the creators who’ve written stories or created characters that helped to make that wondrous universe a reality. Special shout out to Bill Finger, Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster for getting the ball rolling.
