Psychology intrigues me. I’m also an observer. I’ve spent countless moments in my life engrossed in watching others. In fascination about why living things behave as they do. How biology, genealogy & environmental affectations impact their actions & decisions.
Human psychology I find particularly fascinating.
I’m convinced my urge to understand the processes of the human mind is the biggest driving force for why I pursue acting. The work we performers do investigating the thoughts, motivations & decisions of a ‘character’ to make he or she ‘real’ must come from understanding who that person is & why they believe the things they do.
To this end, I am constantly exploring my own psyche! IQ tests, personality tests, interests tests, journaling… yep. I’ve done ’em all.
Or thought I had…
Then I discovered the most revealing psyche test yet (in my opinion, of course): The Dark Factor.
The Dark Core Scale is adapted from a test battery focused primarily on nine traits: egoism, machiavellianism, moral disengagement, narcissism, psychological entitlement, psychopathy, sadism, self interest & spitefulness.
While that may sound like a peak behind the curtain you don’t want to take, I say hold that judgement & be real with your answers to the questions presented. You may be surprised at some of the revelations about your behaviors in life!
Understanding your own wants, needs, drives & motivations is one of the most profound & beneficial things you can ever do for yourself.
As Aristotle said: Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.
It also tends to create great art.
